Business Growth School

BROUGHT TO YOU BY POINT16

A six-day, in-person growth programme for New Zealand business owners who've built something good and know it can be better.

Most leaders don't need more inspiration. They need clarity on where they're going, a strategy built around that, and the tools to grow on purpose, not by accident.

The Business Growth School is where that happens.

FORMAT

In person, split over 2 months

Who is Business Growth School for?

Business Growth School is built for owners and leaders who:

  • Have built a good business but growth has started to feel harder than it should

  • Are juggling delivery, leadership, and strategy all at once and none of them as well as they'd like

  • Know what they want but can't quite see how to get there from here

  • Want coaching from people who've actually built, funded, and run businesses, not just studied them

If you're running a New Zealand business with $2M–$80M in revenue and feel like you're working harder than the results justify, this programme was built for you.

OUR PROGRAM

Six Days That Cover the Whole Business

Day 1: Business Growth Fundamentals

Most leaders choose a strategy based on the options right in front of them. That's backwards.

Day 1 strips business back to first principles, introduce the Point16 growth framework, and unpack why growth stalls, including the growth cliffs that catch most businesses off guard. You'll start building your live strategy from Day 1.

Day 2: Growing Customer Demand

A lot of businesses try to sell to too many people in too many ways. It makes growth messy and expensive.

Day 2 is about getting precise. We go deep on who your best customers are now, who they could be in the future, what they truly value, and how to create demand with intention rather than noise.

Day 3: Product and Finance Growth

Growth without commercial sense is just expensive enthusiasm.

Day 3 brings product and finance together. We cover pricing, business model design, product lifecycles, and the finance fundamentals that let you make smarter decisions. We demystify capital. Once you understand finance at this level, every decision gets sharper.

Day 4: Operational Efficiencies

As the business grows, so does everything that needs to get done.

Day 4 is about building capability and capacity without losing momentum.  We cover process, systems, technology, and AI to help you work out what should stay human and what should be systemised. We go deep on change management so that when you implement new systems, it actually sticks.

Day 5: Leading Self

As the business grows, the leader's job grows too. Day 5 is personal.

We cover focus, productivity, communication, and personal leadership. You'll see where you might be making things harder than they need to be, and leave with a framework to handle more volume, velocity, and variability without burning out.

Day 6: Strategic Leadership and Beyond

This is where it all comes together.

We go deep on leading people and your organisation with skill. Goal setting, role clarity, communication, and how to build a business that grows through an engaged, high-performing team. You'll finalise your strategy, lock in your 90-day roadmap, and leave with a plan that lives beyond the programme.

"Practical programme to enable you to focus and simplify how you think about your business. The information is battle-tested across multiple industries and comes in a distilled, immediately applicable format."

Dave Cranwell – Owner / Director, Storm Rides

What Participants Actually Did Differently since attending Business Growth School

Our program is focused on delivering real change so you can see real results in your business from Day 1. Here’s what our participants say:

PURPOSE

I'm operating with intention, opposed to winging it.

BUSINESS CONFIDENCE

I'm being far more vocal and driven. I have more confidence that what I'm doing is the right thing. I have something to test and vet my ideas against.

CLARITY

Clarity in communications and expectations between team members.

COMMUNCATION

Going all-in on communicating our goals in different ways. Remembering to reflect on my own communication and leadership style.

PRICE INCREASE

I understood price as a key strategic lever and confidently implemented a price rise with customers.

  • "Business training you can apply to your business straight away. Based on real-world outcomes, delivered through simple, easy-to-understand principles, all with the focus on growing your business."

Adam Westwood – CPO / COO, Eversource Procurement Systems

  • "This course condenses the best learnings from years of business insight into an action-packed course tailored to business leaders."

Sam Bauke – Operations Manager, Able Axess

  • "Being surrounded by people at different stages of their business journey, all committed and keen to grow, was incredibly valuable. The team offered a relaxed delivery style backed by clear, well-structured content, easy to understand and immediately applicable."

Scott Douglas – Managing Director, BlackLime

  • "BGS was a valuable reset. It reinforced our 'why' and gave us the clarity and tools to navigate tough decisions and achieve more as a team."

Jesse Brown – Managing Director, Spraymarks

  • "This is the first course I've come away from with tangible knowledge I can implement into my business immediately. The language was clear and at the right level. I wasn't bored throughout all six days, which says something. If I'm bored, you'll know."

Rex Chaffey – General Manager, HK Kitchens

  • "Practical programme to enable you to focus and simplify how you think about business and your business in particular. The information is battle-tested across multiple industries and comes in a distilled, immediately applicable format."

Frequently Asked
Questions

  • That depends on what you need. If you want a comprehensive, practical programme covering strategy, customers, product, finance, operations, and leadership, delivered in person, in a small cohort, by people who've run real businesses. BGS is the most complete option available in New Zealand at this level.

  • Both are strong programmes for New Zealand business owners. The Icehouse Business Owner Programme runs over 3 days; BGS runs over 6. BGS covers more business domains in one programme and runs in smaller cohorts (8–10), meaning more time on your specific business. The per-day investment is comparable. The right choice depends on how deep you want to go.

  • Potentially yes. The Management Capability Development Fund, administered through the Regional Business Partner Network, provides co-funding of up to 50–75% for eligible group training. Contact us and we'll help you explore eligibility.

  • Business Growth School is facilitated by the Point16 team including Mike Burkey, Jamie Russell and Lauren Bermel people who have started, acquired, grown, funded, and governed real businesses. This is not a programme run by academics or consultants. It's run by operators.

  • Owners and leaders of established New Zealand businesses across a range of industries; professional services, trades, manufacturing, technology, hospitality, and more. The common thread is a business that has grown to a point where the old way of running it isn't working as well as it used to. Revenue has typically ranged from $2M to $40M across our cohorts.

  • Honest answer: a mix of both, and that's by design. Participants tell us the programme is roughly split between genuinely new knowledge and clarity and confidence on things they already sensed but hadn't crystallised.

As one participant put it: "Realising that some of the answers weren't new ideas, but revisiting old ones with better tools, structure, and perspective."

  • Apply anyway. We'll add you to the waitlist for the next intake and contact you as soon as dates are confirmed. Cohorts fill quickly.

  • No. BGS is designed for established business owners and leaders. If you're pre-revenue or in your first year of trading, this isn't the right fit yet.

  • Six full days across approximately two months, plus monthly advisory and coaching sessions between blocks if you choose the Course + Advisory option.

  • We'll let participants answer that one:

“If you've got goals, you should go. If you don't, you need to go.” — Jesse Brown

“Don't hesitate. The support you get during, between, and after the course is what makes it special. “ — Rex Chaffey

“You and your business will see the impact straight away.” — Adam Westwood

Apply for the Next Cohort

Business Growth School takes 8–10 owners per intake. Cohorts are kept small deliberately so every participant gets real attention, real accountability, and real results.
