  • Check your measures weekly or monthly, review the plan every quarter, and reset the strategy once a year. Most strategies fail because nobody looks at them after the planning day.

  • A strategy says where the business is going and why. A plan sets out the steps to get there. You need both, and the strategy comes first, or the plan just organises this year's busyness.

  • We build it with you rather than for you. A strategy only works if the owner believes it and can explain it, which is why Business Growth School has you present yours to the room.

  • Start with three to five measures for each part of the business that tell you early when something is going wrong. If a measure never changes a decision, drop it.
